Going Flying...

Good to see so many familiar faces recently at Pilots in the Pub... well let's face it, since there hasn't been much flying, we had almost forgotten what each other looked like!  But this weekend we keep hearing those immortal words from Members "Let's go flying!"  PA28's, the odd cessna, gyro-coptors and Buzzards and Kites are all gearing up to go flying! The Clubhouse is buzzing with people who have been flying, are just about to go flying or are watching people flying... just the way we like it!

It is hard to believe the difference with the weather now from the 2 images taken below only 2 days ago when Gill and Mike Davies were using the bad weather for IMC training!

And now we have sent a student off on a solo navigation to Kemble. Rob Bridgeman took these images yesterday... he was on the arrivals board at Kemble and had a great time!

The very happy gentleman you see below thought he was coming to watch his partner go flying today but she bought a lesson in the gyro-copter for him too. So they both had a wonderful flying experience with Andy Jones...

Airspace Safety and Frequency Monitoring Codes

We know it has been a while since people have been flying but we managed to capture actual backtracking on the hard runway when someone else was taking off...The varied weather and the lack of flying could be what has prompted Gill to write a piece for the newsletter concerning airspace safety....

Listening Squawks.

Listening squawks (or Frequently Monitoring Codes)
Pilots operating outside controlled airspace are encouraged to use listening squawks, particularly if they are flying close to controlled airspace. The pilot listens out on the appropriate radio frequency and sets the transponder to the corresponding listening squawk. There is no air traffic service however the controller is able to contact the pilot if required. This is useful when the airspace is busy and it may be difficult to make a call for a Basic Service, or when operating close to controlled airspace. www.airspacesafety.com has detailed information on the controlled airspace around the areas of the listening squawks.
Happy and safe flying! πŸ›« πŸ›¬

2024 Charts 1:500 000

Also on the subject of safety and since all pilots must have an up to date chart when going flying....We have a limited number of the 2024 1/2 mil charts. Unlike other years our supplier will not let us return out of date charts so we cannot afford to stock pile them. Once these are gone we may not be able to get more...and we may not hold them in stock... If we were you we would hurry down, buy a chart and go flying!!!
