Newsletter June 22nd 2024

We need not say what a brilliant week it has been for flying... a little hot in places and maybe a tad thermally in others, but we're not complaining. Looking out of the window right now it looks amazing up there....

...And we have had some lovely visitors fly in today for breakfast rolls: A Jodel and a Tigermoth coming from the Shuttleworth Festival of Flight Weekend as per the images below:

Even our own Dave Stephens flew in, in his RV... not a bad way to travel to work.

Congratulations Ricardo!

Huge Congratulations to  Ricardo Assis Rosa on going solo on D Day!  Sorry it has taken so long to get your well deserved image in the newsletter. Well done to you and to Gill for getting you solo... Onwards and upwards!

Love these images that Gill took earlier in the week... Conor asked her to take pictures of him flying advanced turns to show his family.. pretty impressive Conor!

Expect the Unexpected...Or
how to look like a total %$^&* !

I went to pick up UW out of maintenance… I was a little nervous because I’d only visited Oxford airport twice in in the last 20 years! So I was aware I needed to be  on the ball, I did my normal 'A check'

I listened to the ATIS then proceeded to start the aircraft … checking T’s&P’s were rising into the green, but as the aircraft had been sat over night it took a little while to warm up.

Having obtained clearance to taxi… applied power and released the brakes to move away… Image my surprise when she just sat there.  ‘Ah!’  I thought ‘it must be because we are on a slight slop’…so I applied more power, still no movement… but lots of noise. Then it dawned on me ….
"
CHOCKS"

I didn’t  even notice the chocks were in place.....because we never use chocks for the fleet aircraft…So be sure to check for the unexpected or unusual! Otherwise you will look like I did when I had created so much noise everyone came to have a look 🤦‍♂️. Thanks Maisie!
